HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 18, 2024) … Hampton University head women's basketball coach
Tamisha Augustin announced on Monday the signing of Akilah (AK) Shelton as part of the 2025-26 recruiting class.
"AK brings a unique skill set to our program. Her size, paint presence, and ability to block shots makes us better. In addition, she is an even better person. We're looking forward to using her versatility along with her IQ. Pirate family, you're going to love this young lady," Augustin said.
Shelton, from Columbus, Georgia, is a two-sport athlete at Hardaway High School, playing volleyball and basketball. She earned second-team All-State honors after helping lead her team to a state runner-up finish and first-team Group AAAA All-Region I recognition last season.
A force in the paint, Akilah is a three-time First Team All-Region selection, three-time Shot Blocker of the Year, and holds titles such as Georgia Basketball Coaches Association All-State, Conference MVP and Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
Heading into her senior year with over 1,000 career points, 600 rebounds, and 300 blocks, she is a defensive powerhouse and offensive leader. Shelton was recruited by several mid-major schools in the south and was preseason ranked the third-best power forward in the state of Georgia by the Georgia High School Association along with first-team All-West Georgia honors.
