Pirates Close Out Three-Game Home Stint Against Regent

HAMPTON, Va. (Dec. 17, 2024) … The Pirates after a short hiatus return to action at the Convocation Center against Regent. Hampton is currently on a two-game winning streak and has not lost a game in December. Wednesday's contest marks Regent's third game against a Division I opponent this season.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The series between Hampton Regent began during the 2018-19 season with the Pirates winning the first matchup 114-55. Since the original contest, HU and the Royals have squared off three more times. Heading into the fifth all-time meeting, Hampton leads the series 4-0. Dan Banister Jr. and Kyrese Mullen are the only two players for the Pirates to play in the most recent meeting.
ABOUT HAMPTON
In its last time out, Hampton defeated Apprentice 86-68. Mullen had his best game of the season scoring 22 points while going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. The Norfolk, Va. native, also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. While the Pirates nearly shot 40 percent in the first half, Coach Ivan Thomas's side shot an improved 56 percent in the second frame.
The Pirates continue to be one of the best offensive-rebounding teams in the country. HU is producing 14.3 offensive boards per contest ranking 22nd in the nation and first in the Coastal Athletic Association. Both Mullen and Wayne Bristol Jr. sit inside the top 15 of the conference for offensive rebounds per game. In eight of Hampton's contests this season the leading scorer has come off the bench. The Pirates have one of the deeper units in the country producing 40 points per game. With 55 percent of Hampton's offense coming off the bench, HU sits fourth in the nation for bench points per contest and first in the CAA.
ABOUT REGENT
The Royals enter the game with a 1-9 overall record and have yet to play a conference contest. Heading into Wednesday's contest, Regent has already faced two Division I opponents Longwood and VMI. RU will have an Interim Head Coach Michael W. Allen. Allen during his playing days at the collegiate level, set two records at Chowan for three-point shooting. He held the record for season three-point percentage and made threes in a game.
In its last time out Regent fell to William Peace 95-76. Christian Brown led the Royals in scoring with 28 points while going 12-for-23 from the field. So far this season Brown has led RU in scoring with 17.9 points per game. The Chesapeake, Va. native, has scored 20 or more points in four consecutive games. Vladimir Vibert, Antonie Brown, and Clark Darrin are all averaging double figures during the 2024-25 campaign.
