HAMPTON, Va. (March 7, 2024) … The Lady Pirates continue their home stretch of games against Coastal Athletic Association foe UNCW. Hampton's three-game series against the Seahawks begins Friday at 1:00 p.m. and ends on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. For both teams, this will be their first conference contests of the 2024 campaign. Before this weekend's slate of games, the Lady Pirates have faced UNCW 12 times are 2-10 all time.
A Look at the Lady Pirates
Hampton in its last time out fell to Howard in both games of the doubleheader. In game one the Lady Pirates fell to the Bison by one run and lost 6-2 in the second contest. Howard in both games was able to do damage with two outs. Sixth-year senior
Janae Lyles had an impressive series. The Waldorf, Md. native, going 2-3 from the plate recording two doubles.
Carmynn Bonner also had a solid showing producing three hits and an RBI.
Bonner through the 2024 season, has been one of the Lady Pirates' best offensive players. In 19 games she leads the team in hits with 18 and six doubles. Bonner also has had four multi-hit games. The Dayton, Ohio native, against Marist, recorded a season-high three hits.
Taylor Ivey is close behind Bonner with a batting average of .298. The sophomore currently has the sixth-longest-active-hitting streak in the country.

A Look at the Seahawks
UNCW enters the weekend with a 9-9 overall record and is on a three-game losing streak. The streak began with a loss to No. 14 Kentucky on the road. The Seahawks are coached by Ashley Wade who enters her second season with the program. In Wade's first season with the Seahawks, she made school history with three student-athletes making the All-CAA First Team. UNCW would also have the conference's Player of the Year.
So far this season, Coach Wade's squad has had the best ERA in the CAA (2.39). Their ace out of the bullpen is junior Emily Winstead. Winstead has appeared in 10 games, pitching 45.1 innings. She sits fourth in the CAA for strikeouts with 34. The Seahawk's other starter Kara Hammock also is off to a hot start with a 2.42 ERA. Even though Hammock has pitched one more inning than Winstead, opponents have a lower batting average against her (.211).
