Hampton Celebrates Athletics Achievements at Annual Awards Banquet

HAMPTON, VA. (May 6, 2024) … The Hampton department of athletics celebrated the accomplishments and successes of the 2023-24 sports seasons on April 29 at the annual Awards Banquet at the Hampton Convocation Center.
 
Director of Athletics Anthony D. Henderson Sr. presented the major awards of the evening. Henderson recognized the Hampton sailing and women's tennis teams as Teams of the Year.
 
Coach Alessandro Ambrosi's sailing team finished second at the MAISA Conference Championship Qualifier and fifth of 17 at the Laser South MAISA Championship Qualifier. In addition, the team placed first at the Kingsmill Cup, Luce Regatta, Stony Brook Spring Regatta and Grant Trophy during the season.
 
Coach Ana Popovic women's tennis team won six of their last seven matches to finished with a 14-9 mark on the season. Hampton defeated Hofstra in the opening round of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship for the team's first win at the league tournament.
 
Henderson also recognized individual student-athletes for their achievements including:
