Head Coach Trent Boykin Tabs Joe Dailey as QB Coach

HAMPTON, VA. (June 25, 2024) … Head football coach Trent Boykins has named Joe Dailey quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. A former standout quarterback at Nebraska and North Carolina, Dailey comes to Hampton after spending the 2023 season as an offensive analyst at Kansas.

"Joe Dailey is a teacher and he develops players to their fullest potential," said Boykin. "He is a student of the game and has gained a great deal of experience on the college and professional levels. He is a great addition to our coaching staff."

A native of Freehold Township, N.J, Dailey was an all-state quarterback at Saint Peter's Prep in Jersey City, N.J. He was recruited to Nebraska by Head Coach Frank Solich.

As a sophomore, he earned the starting quarterback position along with team captain honors. He passed for 2,025 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Huskers that season. He transferred to North Carolina for his final two seasons and passed for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior.

He began his coaching career at Buffalo in 2008 as a graduate assistant for Head Coach Turner Gill. After one season, he was promoted to tight ends coach at the age of 24.

During his two seasons at Buffalo, the Bulls developed numerous all-conference players, won the MidAmerican Conference championship, and played in the first bowl game in team history. Dailey would go on to follow Gill to Kansas as recruiting coordinator in 2010 before being named quarterbacks coach at Bethune-Cookman in 2011.

After one season, he was reunited with Gill at Liberty as quarterback coach from 2012-13 before being named offensive coordinator for the Flames in 2014-18. As offensive coordinator, Dailey and the Flames would go on to defeat numerous FBC schools which improved the school's profile as they transitioned from an FCS program to an FBS independent program.

Following Gill's retirement, Dailey would go on to be the offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach for Bob Davie at New Mexico for one season before transitioning to Boston College as wide receivers coach for the 2020-21 seasons. At Boston College, his receiving corps were extremely successful and Dailey helped develop Zay Flowers, a first-round draft pick for the Baltimore Ravens. In 2022, Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule and Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo hired Dailey as wide receivers coach. During that season, the Panthers would finish second in the NFC South.

Dailey spent this past season as an offensive analyst at Kansas. Dailey would help the Jayhawks develop one of the most explosive offenses in the country and secure a 9-4 record and a win in its first bowl game in 17 seasons.

Dailey and his wife, Carrie, are the parents of four children: Stella, Noah, Myles, and Tyson.
