HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 17, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates take to the road for the first time in 2025 as they visit in-state foe VMI for a 6 p.m. faceoff in Lexington, Va.
Hampton has faced VMI every year the Pirates have been varsity level team. Last season,
Mamadou Meite scored two goals and
Kai Talley,
Craig Williams,
Darius Stanley and Sebastien West tallied one each as VMI won 25-6.
ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates are in the fourth season under the leadership of coach
Chazz Woodson and their third season of lacrosse in the Coastal Athletic Association.
AJ Knox leads the Pirates with six goals in the first two games, including four against Iona in their last match. Meite has two, while Stanley,
Elijah Jean-Jacques,
David Jackson,
Reed Shaw have one apiece.
Hampton is third in the CAA in caused turnovers per game (8.00), third in clearing percentage (.818) and in man-down defense (.750).

The Pirates have announced three captains for the 2025 season –
Jonathan Angel (#4),
Dillon Bethea (#33) and
AJ Knox (#1).
ABOUT VMI
Led by five goals by senior Luke Rusterucci, the VMI lacrosse team defeated host Mercer University by a 14-11 score Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia
Rusterucci and Dayton Bagwell have scored 11 goals each in three games for the Keydets. Austin English is next with six, followed by Ty Yonas and Simon Moore with four.
