HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 21, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates men's lacrosse team heads to the Sunshine State to tangle with the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday at noon.
Hampton (0-2) is coming off a 28-4 loss to VMI as
Reed Shaw scored twice, while
AJ Knox and
Darius Stanley scored once. Jacksonville (1-2) defeated Marist 15-12 as Jack Taylor scored four goals and Nicky Brown added three.
These teams last met two seasons ago in Hampton as the Dolphins came away with a 26-3 win as Derian Williams-Sturdivant,
Jayden Price and
Andre Myers scored once apiece for the Pirates.
ABOUT HAMPTON
The Pirates are in the fourth season under the leadership of coach
Chazz Woodson and their third season of lacrosse in the Coastal Athletic Association.
AJ Knox leads the Pirates with seven goals in the first three games, including four against Iona. Shaw now has three goals after his two-goal outing against VMI, while
Mamadou Meite and
Darius Stanley have two each.
Hampton leads the CAA in saves per game (18.33) which also ranks second nationally, while also second in the CAA in man-down defense (.722).
CAPTAIN MY CAPTAINS
The Pirates have announced three captains for the 2025 season –
Jonathan Angel (#4),
Dillon Bethea (#33) and
AJ Knox (#1).
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE
Taylor and Brown are the top two on the Dolphins in scoring through three matches. Taylor has seven goals and four assists to lead the team with 11 points, while Brown has six goals. Dalton Hubbs has three goals and one assist for four points, while Daylin John-Hill has two goals and two assists for four points.
Ryan Della Rocco has started all three matches with 28 saves.
