Darius Stanley scored two goals to lead five Hampton scorers on Saturday as the men's lacrosse team fell 21-6 to Jacksonville.
Reed Shaw got the Pirates on the board with 9:49 on the clock in the first quarter with a feed from Stanley to trim a deficit to 2-1.
Following a trio of goals by the Dolphins, the Pirates scored twice in 91 seconds to trim the lead to 5-3. Stanley got his first with an assist by Sebastien West with 4:58 left.
Taylor Whitt answered with an unassisted tally with 3:27 on the clock to trail 5-3.
Jacksonville closed the scoring in the first as Daylin John-Hill scored his second of the quarter to put the hosts up 6-4 with 37 seconds left.
Hampton opened the second with Stanley blasting in his second goal just 52 seconds into the stanza as the Pirates trailed 6-4. The Dolphins broke the game open scoring the next 14 goals to lead 20-4 on a Henry Fleckner goal with 7:02 left.
The Pirates got goals from
Jonathan Angel and
AJ Knox in a two-minute span of the fourth to trail 20-6, but saw a Jacksonville score by Peyton Tallo finish the game for a 21-6 final.
Hampton is now home for a pair of matches starting on March 2 facing Mercyhurst at 5 p.m.
