
Hampton Falls at Charleston

CHARLESTON, Va. (Oct. 9, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team fell in three sets to host Charleston Friday night 25-9, 25-16, 25-12.
Nikola Jaroszewicz started the scoring for Hampton in the first set when she deposited a kill from Ana Luiza Caminha Matos to even the score at one. Olivia Bryant sparked a 3-0 run to tie the score at four with two kills. From there, the Cougars rattled off 14 of the next 16 points to take a commanding 18-6 lead late into the set. Charleston eventually took set one 25-9 over the Pirates.Â
Hampton continued to fight in the second set. After falling down 4-0, Racquel Frazier recorded a service ace followed by another Bryant kill to help Hampton bring the score to within one at 4-3.The two sides traded points from there, with Charleston clinging on to a 15-12 lead at the midway media timeout. Out of the timeout, the Cougars ripped off a 8-1 run and used that momentum to take set two, 25-16.Â
The Pirates scored the first two points of set three when Lillian Campbell and Frazier recorded a block assists followed by a Charleston error. The Cougars quickly responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead. Hampton continued to battle, rattling off a 4-2 run to bring the score to 11-7, but it was once again Charleston ripping off a run to take a 17-8 late in the set. They continued to extend their lead and eventually took down Hampton in the third set 25-12.Â
Bryant and Frazier led the Pirates with five kills each, while Caminha Matos recorded 14 assists. Jaya Rimm led the team on defense with seven digs, while Campbell added two blocks.Â
The two sides will face off for their second match Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The match has been moved up due to weather in the Charleston area.Â
