Pirates Host Virginia Union in Exhibition Saturday

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 9, 2026) … The Hampton University men's basketball team is set to host former CIAA rival Virginia Union Saturday in an exhibition. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
ABOUT HAMPTON:
- Hampton enters the exhibition after a 13-17 record in 2025-26, while going 7-11 in the CAA.
- Etienne Strothers is leading returner from last year's team after playing 18.8 minutes per game. He averaged 6.2 points per game, 1.7 assists per game and 3.4 rebound per game a year ago. Aidan Haskins returns for his sophomore season after appearing in 30 games for the Pirates in 2025-26. He led the Pirates in three point percentage amongst qualified players at 39.7%.
- The 2026-27 Pirate basketball team sports four returners, eight transfers and five freshman.
- Hampton adds Jayme Mitchell Jr., Seth Hubbard and Cornelius Robinson III after facing all three in 2025-26. Mitchell Jr., a graduate student from Jackson, Miss. poured in 16 points on 3-6 shooting from behind the arc, while adding five rebounds in a game against the Pirates in the Chris Paul HBCU Classic. Hubbard, a guard from Jonesboro, Ga. recorded a team high of 23 points against Hampton in game one at Milwaukee. He added five rebounds, while he shot 9-16 from the field with four three-pointers. Robinson III has played against the Pirates four times, as he was at Monmouth the past three seasons. In 2025-26 he recorded nine rebounds and seven points.
- The Pirates are set to travel to Georgia Tech for their first regular season game on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
ABOUT VIRGINIA UNION:
- The Panthers posted a 25-6 record in 2025-26, falling in the round of 32 of the NCAA Division II Tournament to Indiana University-Pennsylvania 66-62.
- A.J. English was named the new head coach, after Jay Butler took the head coaching position at Winston Salem State.
- Virginia Union returns eight players to their 2026-27 roster, while adding eight newcomers.
- Travis Vaughn is the lead returner in game played, having started 21 of 24 games last season. He averaged 5.7 points per game.

Hampton opens the 2026-27 season in Atlanta, Ga., when they take on Georgia Tech Wednesday, Nov. 3. The two will tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
