HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2026) … Neveah Brown paced four in double figures with 17 points for homestanding Hofstra as they defeated Hampton 75-59 in a Super Bowl Sunday CAA matchup at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Hampton (9-14, 3-8) opened the game with buckets from
Kayla Lezama and
Aisha Dabo. The Pride went 3-for-3 over the next 86 seconds to lead 10-4 after a triple from Neveah Brown forcing a Hampton timeout at the 6:19 mark.
Lezama and
Kiya Dorroh had jumpers to bring the deficit to 12-10 with 4:06 left. The Pride followed with a 10-4 run to close the quarter leading 22-14 after an Emma Von Essen jumper with 19 seconds left in the quarter.
Hofstra (4-18, 2-9) continued its hot shooting into the second quarter racing out to a 31-15 lead after a pair of free throws from Chloe Starling with 6:21 left in the half. Hampton opened the quarter missing its first five shots, while Hofstra was 2-for-3 from the floor and hit four free throws.
A
Taylor Gibson triple stopped the field goal drought for Hampton at the 3:35 mark to trail 37-18. Von Essen answered with her third triple of the quarter to push the lead to the largest of the half at 40-18 with 2:34 remaining. Hampton closed the half on a 7-2 burst to trail 42-25 after an
Arlisha Boston triple and a free throw from
Aaryn Battle.
The Pirates slowly got back into the contest as
Kiki McElrath and Lezama combined for the first 13 points for Hampton as McElrath scored the first five points and Lezama had a pair of triples and a bucket to trim the margin to 49-38 with 6:46 in the third.
Hofstra connected on a pair of triples from Micaela Carter and Chloe Starling to push the lead back to 17 at 55-38 with 4:24 on the clock. Hampton closed the third on a 7-0 burst behind two free throws from Lezama and five points from Gibson. Her second triple of the game helped pull the Pirates to 55-45 heading into the fourth.
Lezama hit a free throw to pull Hampton under a 10-point deficit at 55-46 just 16 seconds into the period. Hofstra regained control on the strength of a 10-3 run as a Carter triple pushed the lead to 65-49 forcing a timeout with 7:01 remaining. Carter came out of the timeout with a layup to lead 67-49 before Hampton made its last run.
Kiya Dorroh hit a pair of free throws and a jumper in a 7-0 spurt trimming the deficit to 67-56 but that was as close as Hampton could get.
Lezama paced Hampton with 17 points, while Gibson set a season high 14 points and matched her season best with six boards.
The Pirates are back home for a three-game homestand starting Friday night hosting Towson on Play4Kay Night at 7 p.m.
