Pirates Travel to Mercyhurst Saturday

HAMPTON, Va. (Mar. 6, 2026) … The Hampton University men's lacrosse team hits the road for their first game of four away from Armstrong Stadium Saturday morning. 

LAST MEETING:
Mercyhurst won the lone game between the two sides in 2025, taking down Hampton 22-6.

ABOUT HAMPTON:
Maliik Wood (13) and Anthony Badonille Jr. (11) each have recorded double digit goals on the season for the Pirates through five games. Bardonille Jr. has also registered a team high seven assists. Darius Stanley has deposited nine goals on the year while also adding five assists. 

The Pirates have shared the wealth on the offensive side this season, as 10 different players have scored a goal. Amare Ford (6) and Judah Johnson-Nixon (5) have been key on the defensive side as they have recorded a total of 11 caused turnovers. 

ABOUT MERCYHURST:
The Lakers enter Saturday's contest with a 1-6 record on the season. Their lone win came against Canisius on Feb. 17. Mason Blakeman leads a balanced attack offensively with 10 goals, while the Lakers have five other players with six goals or more. Chase Petschke leads the team in assists, while Ryan Mahoney and Darrin Santos each have five. 

Drew Pagano and Brenton Paladino each have recorded 10 caused turnovers through seven games, and goalie Tyler Moritzen has saved 75 shots on the season. 

Last season, the Lakers posted a 2-11 record. 

FIRST YEAR LEAP
Vincent Culpepper is leading the Pirates to massive leaps in year one. Hampton is currently averaging 9.2 goals per game after just 4.8 a season ago. The Pirates have already scored eight goals or more in four of the five games after only accomplishing that feat twice a season ago. 

RE-WRITING HISTORY
Anthony Bardonille Jr. became the first Hampton Pirate to receive a major weekly award by the CAA on Feb. 23, winning CAA Rookie of the Week. The freshman from Washington, D.C. posted four goals and three assists against VMI. He has recorded two hat tricks in four games this season, and currently leads the team in assists. 

MARCH MADNESS
The Pirates will play four games in the month of March, all coming on the road, tallying 2,033 total miles. The month will start with a trip to Mercyhurst followed by Fairfield, Queens (N.C.), and Monmouth. 

UP NEXT:
Hampton continues its road swing when they travel to Fairfield for a CAA game on Mar. 14. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
