Hampton Drops Match To George Mason Sunday

FAIRFAX, Va. (Sept. 5, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team fell to host George Mason Sunday evening 3-0.
George Mason used an early 7-0 run in the first set to take a commanding 10-3 lead. The two sides then traded points for a majority of the set before Hampton ripped a 4-1 spurt late to bring the match within eight at 23-15. George Mason then closed the set out, winning 25-16.
The Patriots used that momentum to begin the second set, rattling off a quick 8-3 run before two services aces settled the Pirates in. After the two sides traded points, Hampton ripped off three points midway through the set courtesy of a kill from Racquel Frazier and two Patriot errors, cutting the George Mason lead to 14-10. The Patriot then scored eight of the next 11 points to take a 22-13 lead. They eventually closed the set out, winning 25-17.
In set three, the two sides traded points early, as Frazier knotted the score at seven. George Mason quickly ripped a 6-1 run to once again take a commanding lead. The Pirates fought back, benefiting from multiple Patriot errors to bring the score within three at 18-15, but it was George Mason closing the set out to defeat Hampton in three sets 25-21.
Frazier was the lone Pirates with double-digit kills Sunday, recoding 10, while Belen Ferrufino registered 23 assists. Nikola Jaroszewicz and Dila Derendeli led the team with seven digs a piece.
Hampton returns to action Friday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Florida A&M Tournament. The Pirates will play FIU at 11:00 a.m. Friday, followed by Louisiana at 5:00 p.m.
