A long-time throws specialist and record holder at his alma mater, Eric Smalls starts his 11th year on the Hampton University coaching staff this year working with the throws as well as assisting in the multi-events.
Smalls joined the Pirates after serving as an assistant coach at North Carolina Central University for six years.  While at NCCU, Smalls worked with the throws and served as the liaison for academic support services.  During his coaching time with the Eagles, he coached five school record holders, two All-MEAC performers, one conference champion and one conference record holder.
He graduated from NCCU holding a bachelor’s in business administration with a concentration in finance in May of 2009.  He was a four-time Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association shot put champion during the indoor/outdoor seasons, a two-time outdoor discus champion in the CIAA and qualified for the NCAA Division II Nationals in both. Smalls holds the school records in both events for NCCU.
