Renaldo Pacheco enters his second season as the head coach of the Hampton volleyball program. He was given the title of head coach on Jan. 8, 2024.
Pacheco, formerly the associate head volleyball coach at Coastal Carolina, brings an impressive resume filled with professional playing experience, national team coaching, and collegiate success.
Pacheco's journey in volleyball is marked by outstanding achievements. As a former professional volleyball player in Brazil and Argentina, he brings a unique perspective to coaching. In 2005, he assumed the role of head coach for the Club Jundiai men's squad, showcasing his leadership prowess. Pacheco also contributed to the success of the Brazilian men's and women's national teams as an assistant coach, playing a pivotal role in the men's team's first-place finish at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
His playing career, spanning from 1983 to 2001, included stints with 10 different teams, notably the Brazilian National Team, which secured a gold medal at the 1988 South American Junior Championship.
Before joining Coastal Carolina, Pacheco's coaching journey led him to UMBC, where he served as an assistant coach for two seasons. His tenure was marked by back-to-back American East Conference championships and NCAA tournament bids in 2020 and 2021. Pacheco's strategic insights and coaching acumen played a crucial role in the Retrievers' success during his time at UMBC.
Pacheco's coaching career began at his alma mater, Tulsa, where he initially served as a student manager for three years (2009-2012) before earning the role of assistant coach. His dedication and expertise were evident as he transitioned to Mississippi from 2014-19, where he was eventually promoted to associate head coach. In 2017, Pacheco contributed to a historic season, guiding the Rebels to victory in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship and equaling the school’s most wins (22) in the rally era.
A native of Campinas, Brazil, Pacheco holds a degree in psychology from Tulsa, graduating in 2012. His multifaceted background, including international playing experience, national team coaching, and collegiate success, positions him as a dynamic leader for the Hampton volleyball program.
