Derrick Price joined the Hampton staff in the fall 2024 as Deputy Director of Athletics, Chief Operating Officer.
He served as director of athletics (2020-22) and later as vice president of intercollegiate athletics (2022-24) at Bluefield State. During his tenure, he oversaw the addition of 10 new varsity sports, a move to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, as well as construction of a new weight room and upgrades to the training facility.
Price began his coaching career as an assistant basketball coach at Bluefield College (now Bluefield University). As head coach at Bluefield State four seasons, he led the team to three appearances in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) tournament where his 2018-19 squad finished as national runner-up.
Price was a member of the Bluefield University basketball team and served as team caption for two seasons. As a senior, Price was named first-team all-conference and helped lead the team to the 2002 league title. As an assistant coach, Price helped lead the basketball team to the NCCAA National Tournament three times as well as a second-place finish during the 2013-2014 season.
Price is a 2002 graduate of Bluefield College with a degree in Information Technology. He earned then a master's degree in Sports Management from West Virginia.
