Kelly Diaz joins the Hampton University women’s soccer staff as an assistant coach, bringing collegiate coaching experience, goalkeeper development expertise, leadership, and a strong commitment to student-athlete growth to the Pirates program.
A former collegiate goalkeeper and men’s soccer student-athlete at Holy Family University, Diaz earned his degree in Criminal Justice in 2013 before beginning his coaching career. He later served on staff at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he worked primarily with goalkeepers and assisted in overall player development.
Diaz spent five seasons with the Wilmington University women’s soccer program, serving as goalkeeper coach before stepping into an interim leadership role. During his time with the Wildcats, Wilmington captured a conference championship and earned multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. His work helped support a program culture built on accountability, resilience, competitiveness, and development both on and off the field.
Known for his energy, professionalism, and ability to connect with student-athletes, Diaz is passionate about helping players develop confidence, sharpen their mentality, and improve technically. His coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, preparation, competitiveness, and creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive academically, athletically, and personally.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Diaz has worked extensively in the youth soccer landscape, including goalkeeper development and elite-level club training throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Outside of soccer, Diaz is a real estate professional and former Delaware State Trooper, having served 10 years in law enforcement. His background in service, leadership, and relationship-building continues to shape his approach as a coach and mentor.
Diaz and his family are excited to be part of the Hampton Roads community and contribute to the continued growth of the Hampton University women’s soccer program.
