BALTIMORE, MD. – A wild 23-9 run in the last 6:57 helped propel Hampton to an 82-79 win at Coppin State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup Monday night.

Coppin State used a 22-7 run over an eight minute span of the opening half to take a 29-15 lead on a triple by Lamar Morgan with 5:55 left. Morgan ended the game with a game-high 30 points including eight 3-pointers as he was 6-for-8 from three-point range in the first half.

In the second half, Hampton cut the deficit to four on a steal and jumper by Jermaine Marrow with 15:29 left for a 47-43 deficit. The Eagles soared again on a run to lead 58-43 on an Adam Traore layup with 13:10 remaining.

Coppin State kept the lead going and held a 70-59 advantage on a triple by Traore with 6:57 left. Three straight 3-pointers by Malique Trent-Street helped put Hampton up for the first time since 8-7 at 74-72 with 2:58 left.

Another 3-pointer from Trent-Street gave Hampton a 78-74 lead with 1:45 left before Coppin made last run to lead 79-78 on a Chad Andrews-Fulton layup with 45 seconds left. Marrow responded with a driving jumper and two Kalin Fisher free throws with eight seconds left helped ice the win.

Hampton hit 58.6% from the field in the second half (17-of-29) and was 6-of-12 from 3-point range (50%). For the night they were 26-of-59 (44.1%) from the field and 7-of-18 from 3-point range (38.6%). They out-rebounded Coppin State 40-38.

Marrow was the leading scorer with 23 points, going 11-of-13 from the foul linem with five rebounds to lead Hampton. Trent-Street added 20 points with five assists. Akim Mitchell and Greg Heckstall each added nine points.

Hampton, who with this game finishes an eight-game in 17-day stretch, is now off until Saturday when they host South Carolina State at 6 pm in the HU Convocation Center.
