Canute Curtis

Canute Curtis is entering in his first season as a member of the Hampton University coaching staff where he will serve as the Defensive Line Coach. Curtis responsibilities will include coaching the extra point/ field goal block team, he will serve as the coaching liaison with officials and will be responsible for recruiting in the Nashville, Memphis, Richmond, Va., Charlotte and New Jersey.
 
In 2004, Curtis began his coaching career at Towson University in Towson, Maryland where he coached the Line Backers. After just one season at Towson, Curtis took the Line Backers and Special Teams coordinator at Tennessee State University in 2005. During his third season with TSU, he coached the Defensive Ends and was the Special Teams Coach, coaching four All- Conference players.
 
Curtis collegiate football career began at West Virginia University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
 
He played rush Line Backer for WVU for 5 seasons from 1992-1996. During the 1995-1996, Curtis earned All-Conference honors and was the Big East Defensive Player of the Year for 1996. Also during the 1996 season, Curtis was a finalist for the Dick Butkus Award, finalists for the Bronco-Nagurski Award, Consensus All-American and team MVP. He holds WVU career and single season sack record holder. His honors helped him to be signed Cincinnati Bengals for seven seasons (1997-2003).
 
Curtis expectations for the 2008 season include not only winning, but winning MEAC, increasing the number of sacks per game and be the foundation for the defense.
 
He is the husband of the Latoya Curtis- Moore and together they have two children, Logan (8) and Cydney (4). In his free time enjoys reading and golf.
