Princess Anne, Md.-Sophomore Jasmin Elder (Upper Marlboro, Md./ Gwynn HS) dished out 13 assists and sophomore Morgan Williams (Duncanville, Texas/ Duncanville HS) got a team-high 12 kills for Hampton in conference action against UMES. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the Lady Pirates dropped to 1-5 (0-1 MEAC) with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-22, 30-24) loss to UMES Tuesday night at the Hytche Center in Princess Anne, Md.
The Lady Hawk volleyball team ended a seven match losing streak while Hampton extends their match losing streak to five.
Williams led Hampton with 12 kills and a .346 attacking percentage (12-3-26). Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind./ Snider HS) added four kills with a .182 attacking percentage (4-2-11) while senior Chavanca Hoskins (Dallas, Texas/ Lincoln HS) added six digs on the defensive end. Middle hitter Ese Ighedosa (Kansas City, Mo./ Center Senior HS) chipped in with six total blocks.
The Lady Hawks cruised to an easy 30-15 win in game one as they held Hampton to a .188 hitting percentage. A kill by Ighedosa tied the score at 8-8 in game two before a Caylin Woodward kill sparked a 16-8 UMES run.
Hampton was able to close within in three points of the lead on several occasions as UMES had 10 of their 20 match errors in game three. However a Melanie Durimel kill opened and eight point lead for the Lady Hawks at 26-18 before middle blocker Adora Luster sealed the 30-24 win for UMES with a kill of her won.
Durimel led the Lady Hawks with a match-high 15 kills .
The Lady Pirates will hit the road as they head to Orangeburg, S.C. to participate in the Lady Bulldog Volleyball Tournament hosted by South Carolina State University held on Sept. 15 and 16.
