VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Hampton University football players Dennis Conley and Jeremy Gilchrist earned MEAC weekly football honors this week, as announced by the MEAC Office of Media Relations.
Conley earned the Offensive Lineman of the Week honor, while Gilchrist was

named the Special Teams of the Week.
Conley (LG, 6-4, 257, Sr., Suffolk, Va.) led a Pirates offensive line that accounted for 424 yards of total offense, including 271 yards rushing and 153 yards by air against North Carolina A&T. He also posted three pancake blocks.
Gilchrist (WR/PR, 5-10, 174, Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) scored two touchdowns on two punt returns of 56 and 88 yards in a 44-7 win over the North Carolina A&T Aggies. His 88-yarder broke a school record for the longest punt return for a touchdown, a record he set last season. He finished the night with 195 yards in punt returns and 227 all-purpose yards.
Others in the MEAC receiving honors were running back Philip Sylvester of Florida A&M, who was selected as the MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Troy Leftwich of Morgan State earned the

Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Maurice Francois of Bethune-Cookman earned Rookie of the Week honors.
The Pirates will take a week off before they strap back up and get on the road and head to Dover, Del. to face the 2007 MEAC champions at Delaware State University. The game will be the first to be broadcast live via the website.

Herbert Bynes (HAM) completed 15-of-25 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown in a 44-7 win over North Carolina A&T.
Brent Davis (BCU) tallied five tackles, one solo, and one interception in the Wildcats win over the Savannah State Tigers.
Willie Carter (HOW) caught eight passes for 87 yards and a touchdown in a 51-24 loss to the Rattlers.
Endor Cooper (HOW) recorded 17 tackles, eight solo, and 2.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards in the Bison’s loss to the Rattlers.
Qier Hall (FAMU) collected three tackles and two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown in the win over the Howard Bison.
Trevor Scott (FAMU) was perfect against the Bison with 3-of-3 field goals of 36, 26 and 20 yards out. He also completed 7-of-7 PATs in the win.
Ruebin Mordecai III (BCU) led the Wildcats offensive line which recorded five rushing touchdowns and a season high 412 yards rushing against the SSU Tigers.
Michael Swett (HAM) collected 12 tackles, one solo, including 1.5 sacks and one interception in the Pirates win over the Aggies.
