HAMPTON TRACK WINS THREE TITLES AT RALEIGH RELAYS

RALEIGH, N.C. –
The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams combined to win three relay titles at the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday at the Paul Derr Track on the campus on North Carolina State University.

The Lady Pirates took both the 4x100-meter relay (45.65) and the 4x400-meter relay (season-best 3:40.18), while the Pirates took gold in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best 40.40 for their lone event title of the weekend.

Freshman Cassandra Jones (Norfolk, Va.) and sophomore Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.) were both on the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay squads – as well as the 4x200-meter relay team that finished second with a 1:37.17.

Jones also ran a season-best 54.80 in the 400-meter dash to come in sixth.

Senior Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) gave the Lady Pirates their best individual finish of the weekend, running a season-best 1:00.62 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish second. She was also on the 4x400-meter relay squad that took gold.

Sophomore Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.) ran a 13.79 to finish third in the 100-meter hurdles, while also running on the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relay teams.

Sophomore Devyn Thompson (Chicago, Ill.) turned in a third-place effort of her own in Section V of the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 18:33.10. Senior Ermesha Fair (Chesapeake, Va.) also came in third in Section II of the long jump with a mark of 5.32 meters.

Sophomore Larry Ramirez (Pleasantville, N.J.) turned in the best individual finish of the weekend for the Pirates, running a season-best 1:51.56 in the 800-meter run invitational to finish third. Freshman Chidi Okezie (Philadelphia, Pa.) came in fifth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best 46.93.

Sophomore Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.) ran a 47.06 in the 400-meter dash to finish seventh.

Senior Devan Clark (Lorton, Va.) set a new school record in the discus throw, tossing it 46.32 meters to break the previous mark of 44.72 meters that he set at the Shamrock Invitational two weekends ago. Clark finished 15th in the discus throw.

The Pirates also took the bronze in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking in at a season-best 3:08.41.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will be back in action this weekend, as both teams head up I-64 to compete in the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary. Select members of the women's team will also travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Florida Relays.
