HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University graduate guard Quinton Chievous and senior rightside Vendula Strakova were named HU Athletes of the Week for their respective performances over the course of the past week.
 
Chievous (Chicago, Ill.) scored in double figures in both of the Pirates' games in Fargo, N.D. this past week to wrap up the 2K Classic. The Tennessee transfer scored 16 points in Friday's 82-69 win over Alcorn State, before adding 15 points in Saturday's contest at North Dakota State.
 
He was named All-Tournament for his efforts, going a combined 10-for-25 (.400) from the floor and 3-for-7 from behind the arc.
 
Chievous also had seven rebounds against Alcorn State.
 
Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) was named Most Outstanding Player of the MEAC Tournament after leading the Lady Pirates to their second straight conference title. She had 27 kills and 12 digs in Sunday's title match against Howard, hitting .449.
 
She also had a career-high and school-record 35 kills in the semifinals against Coppin State and for the tournament, Strakova tallied 80 kills and 36 digs, recording double-doubles in all three matches. She hit .479.
 
Strakova also broke her own school record for most kills in a single season; she currently has 678.
