HAMPTON, Va. – At the recent Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards luncheon held at the University of Richmond, four Hampton University student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom, the community as well as in their sport.

Miles Braden was recognized as a Team Winner, while track standouts
Kayla Key,
Rayon Black and
Donmanique Hardy were Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars winners.
The awards sponsored by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, recognized Team Winners as well as Sports Scholars out of an applicant pool of over 1,200 outstanding minority student-athletes.
Braden, a graduating senior from San Diego, Ca., was one of 37 Team Winners. He is majoring in Accounting and carries a 3.78 GPA. Braden will finish his sailing career participating in the Co-Ed Nationals in Charleston, S.C. at the end of the month.
In the Sports Scholars, three track athletes were recognized for having over a 3.2 GPA and being active on campus as well as the community.
Key is a junior Journalism major from Pittsburgh, Pa. with a 3.33 GPA and participates in the heptathlon. Black is a graduating senior Sport Management major from Kingston, Jamaica carrying a 3.26 GPA and is a middle-distance runner. Hardy is a graduating Liberal Studies major from Lawrenceville, Va. with a 3.24 GPA and will be commissioned into the U.S. Army upon graduation.
All three are participating in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, N.C. this weekend.
