ORLANDO, Fla. – Hampton University women's tennis team continued their Spring Break schedule at the United States Tennis Association National Campus falling 6-0 to South Dakota, but defeated North Carolina Wesleyan College 4-3 on Tuesday.Â
Against South Dakota, the Lady pirates double matches were cancel due to heavy rain. In singles play the Coyotes were able to sweep Hampton.
Hampton would bounce back as they face the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan. In doubles action, The Lady Pirates took a 1-0 lead thanks to
Kiah Turner and
Cherise Slocombe winning 6-3 at line one. N.C. Wesleyan would win 6-4 at line 3. Lady Pirates would clinch the doubles point as
Viktoria Ljungman and
Yulia Kapitanova won 7-6 at line two.
In singles play, that early lead look like it might not be enough as N.C. Wesleyan won two of the first three single matches.
Haley Mullins won 6-0, 6-3 to take line three. Julia D'Auvergne won 6-3, 6-3 at line five. Kapitanova at line one won 6-2, 6-4 to clinched the match for the Lady Pirates. Â
Hampton (1-7, 0-3) returns to action on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida against Lee University at 12:00 pm.
