ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hampton University tennis teams finished off their annual Spring Break swing to Florida by splitting matches with Norfolk State on Friday. The Lady Pirates defeated Norfolk State 6-1, while the men fell to the Spartans by the same score.
In the women's match, Hampton got the doubles point to get the match going as
Kiah Turner and
Cherise Slocombe won at line one 7-5 and the tandem of
Haley Mullins and
Julia d'Auvergne won 6-4 at line three.
Singles saw the Lady Pirates win from line two to six to take the dual win.Â
Viktoria Ljungman won two tie breakers to take the win at line five 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) to highlight the singles results.
For the men, in doubles,
Charles Hudson and
Fernando Fernandes won 6-4 at line two doubles, but the Spartans took line one and three to earn the team point. Singles saw Davy van Geerke take a three set win at line one over Vini Da Silva 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) for the lone Hampton point.
