HAMPTON, VA- Legendary Hampton University Track and Field Coach Maurice Pierce was inducted into the Newport News Track Hall of Fame this past Friday, March 25th.

"Congratulations to Coach Pierce for such a tremendous accomplishment," said Athletic Director Eugene Marshall. "Coach Pierce's dedication to the track and field community throughout the Hampton roads area and especially here at Hampton University continues to be one of excellence and evolution."

Coach Pierce has dedicated over 20 years of service at the helm of Hampton University's track and field programs. His coaching and ability to further HU's championship culture is second to none. Pierce has led the Pirates to 33 team championships during his tenure.

Several student-athletes have gone on to be Olympic medalists representing Hampton University on the biggest athletic stage in the world.

His student-athletes have won conference student-athlete of the year awards, while setting school and conference records consistently elevating his expectations of excellence.

A product of the Hampton roads area, Pierce was a standout student-athlete at Warwick High School and a 1996 graduate of Norfolk State University. He understands the value of giving back to his community and developing world-class talent right here in his own back yard.
