
Malcolm Mays Named HBCU Player of the Week

HAMPTON, Va. (October 7, 2024) … Hampton quarterback Malcolm Mays was named the HBCU Player of the Week by HBCU Plus for his performance against Rhode Island on Oct. 5.
Mays came off the bench to complete 24-of-28 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 37 yards and a score in Hampton's 46-44 double-overtime loss to No. 20-ranked Rhode Island. The senior had touchdown passes of 57, 2, 25, and 8 yards and rushed for a score from two yards out. He was directly responsible for 35 of Hampton's 44 points in the game.
Mays was Hampton's starting quarterback in 2022 before missing most of the 2023 season. He and junior Chris Zellous are sharing the quarterbacking duties this season under interim head coach Trent Boylin.
After a week off, the Pirates will return to action on Oct. 19 against longtime rival North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
