NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Feb. 11, 2024) – The Lady Pirates beat the Christopher Newport Captains by a score of 8-1.

In this match, each game was worth a point unlike the traditional seven.

In doubles, Mio Kozaki and Sofia Sokolova lost their first match of the season to Tessa Trate and Raine Weis 8-3. Lucia Jorrin Fernandez and Meiri Okuwaki took down Mia Linam and Sam Robertson 8-3. Masa Mitic and Diana Starodubtseva defeated Megan Bauer and Kylie Schaefer in a thriller 8-7 (4). Hampton led 2-1 after the doubles matches.

The Lady Pirates won all of their singles matches. Kozaki won her singles match against Weis in dominating fashion, 6-2 and 6-1. Okuwaki took care of business as well, with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Trate. Both Kozaki and Okuwaki are 3-0 in singles this season. Starodubtseva earned her first singles win of the season, 6-2, 6-4. Jorrin Fernandez took down Robertson in two sets, both scored 6-3. She jumps to 2-1 on the season.

Sokolova defeated Kiersten Chang 6-4,6-4, and Mitic took down Schaefer in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, and 11-9. These were the first singles wins for both of these players.
