HAMPTON, Va. (March 30, 2024) – The Hampton women's tennis team (8-6) battled against the East Carolina Pirates (9-7) in a close 4-3 loss on Saturday afternoon at Neilson Screen Stadium in Hampton, Va.

The Lady Pirates won two doubles and two singles matches in the dual.

Mio Kozaki and Diana Starodubtseva defeated Ines Bachir and Alisha Hussein in a tiebreaker 7-6 (3). This was their sixth match won as a pair. The other Hampton duo that won consisted of Meiri Okuwaki and Sofia Sokolova beating Kim Auerswald and Isabella Ortiz 6-3. They lead the Lady Pirates with a 9-1 record in doubles.

In singles play, Kozaki took down Bachir in a three-set tie-breaker (6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5)). Masa Mitic grabbed a point against Joan Madi (7-6 (3), 6-2). Kozaki is now 9-4 in singles and Mitic sits at 8-4.
