HAMPTON, Va. (April 16, 2024) – Both of Hampton's tennis teams dismantled local HBCU rival Norfolk State on Senior Day in Neilson-Screen Stadium.

The only two seniors were Donte Armbrister and Daniel Flynn. They delivered by each winning their doubles and singles matches.

The men's team won 4-0 and Lady Pirates finished 4-2. This was both teams' last regular-season match before the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament.

Men

The Pirates grabbed the doubles point before winning the first three singles matches.

Donte Armbrister and Emiliano Jorquera defeated Antoni Pankowski and Jakub Solarski 6-1, to move to 6-4 as a pair. Daniel Flynn and Aryan Arora beat Vladisov Gorbatenko and Frederick McRae 6-2. The duo is 6-1 together.

In singles, Flynn quickly took down Gorbatenko in two sets, 6-1 and 6-0. Ambrister also won his match in two sets over Deniz Okyay (6-3, 6-1). Jorquera clinched the match in a three-set battle over Solarski (6-3, 3-6, 6-4). Jorquera leads the team with a 14-6 record in singles. Flynn follows at 11-7 and Armbrister at 10-10.

Women

The Lady Pirates came out on top in two of the three doubles matches and won three singles contests.

Meiri Okuwaki and Sofia Sokolova earned their team-leading 14th doubles win over Isabella Cotrell and Sabina Maria Iurea (6-0). Teammates Lucia Jorrin Fernandez and Masa Mitic took care of Irina Ioana Iurea and Alessia Stan 6-4, in the duo's third win.

Okuwaki would beat Gabriela Davidescu in two sets 6-1, 6-4, and Diana Starodubtseva defeated Irina Ioana Iurea 6-1, 3-6, and 6-0. Mitic secured the victory in a sweep over Cotrell (6-0., 6-0). Okuwaki has earned 12 wins and Mitic and Starodutseva are at 11 wins.

The men's squad faces Campbell at 3:00 p.m. this Thursday for the first round of the 2024 CAA Men's Tennis Championship. The match will take place at the College of William & Mary in the Mackesy Tennis Center on the Millie West Courts.
