
Rhode Island Overpowers Hampton 38-10 In Season Finale

The Rams totaled 613 yards offense in the game. For the Pirates, Earl Woods III made his first start and completed 19-of-27 passes for 136 yards and rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown. Korede Sogbesan led the Pirates defense with 10 tackles.
Hampton's first three possessions resulted in a net 13 yards. On Rhode Island's first three possessions, the Rams scored three touchdowns amassing 207 yards. Led by a stalwart defense in the second half, Hampton was able to play on even terms throughout the remainder of the game but was unable to overcome the slow start.
Hampton started the game with a three-and-out after a penalty. The Rams scored on its second play from scrimmage when Antwain Littlejohn Jr. ran untouched 65 yards for a TD 2:36 into the game. The carry pushed Littleton Jr. over the 1,000 yards plateau for the season.
Following another Hampton three-and-out. Brendon Barrow's 28-TD run around end capped a five play, 70-yard drive to put Rhode Island up 14-0 with 8:05 left in the first quarter.
After another Pirate three-and-out. The Rams embarked on another scoring drive moving 72 yards in eight plays with the big play a 46-yard pass from Devin Farrell to Greg Gaines on a third-and-17 play. Littleton's seven-yard run up the middle for a score gave the Rams a 21-0 advantage with 1:13 to go in the opening quarter.
Rhode Island dominated the first quarter outgaining the Pirates 227-40 to lead 21-0.
Following an interception by Rhode Island at the Hampton 11-yard line, the Pirate defense stiffened. The Pirate defense not only kept the Rams out of the endzone but held on a fourth down play and Hampton took over at the five-yard line.
Taking a cue from the inspired play of the Pirate defense, the offense came to life. Hampton moved the ball 95 yards on six plays as Hampton scored on a 44-yard run by Woods to make it 21-10 with 6:12 to go before halftime. Rhode Island's Garth White booted a 39-yard field goal with :07 left before halftime to boost the Rams lead to 24-10 at intermission.
Hampton's Brett Starling opened the second half scoring with a 30-yard field goal with 9:14 left in the third quarter as the Pirates closed to 24-10. On it's next possession Rhode Island moved the ball down field but the Hampton defense forced a fumble just short of the goal line which was recovered by the Pirates.
After multiple penalties on both teams, Rhode Island moved 56 yards in 10 plays despite the barrage of flags to score its first touchdown since the first quarter. Connor Finer caught a four-yard TD pass to put the Rams ahead 31-10 with 1:24 left in the third quarter. Omari Walker hauled in a 61-yard TD pass from Kenyon with 9:17 as the Rams went ahead 38-10 to close out the game's scoring.
The game was the season finale for the Pirates.
