HAMPTON, Va. (September 24, 2026) … Hampton University prepares for its final game at Darling Stadium when the Pirates host Campbell on Saturday. Armstrong Stadium has undergone renovations to replace the aging turf as well as installing a new track around the field

The Pirates hosted Virginia University-Lynchburg and conference foe Bryant at the City of Hampton venue.
The Oct. 24 Homecoming match-up with Monmouth will be on campus.
Scouting the Camels
Campbell is the surprise team of the CAA after the first month of the season. After posting a 2-10 (2-6 CAA) and ending the season on a five-game losing streak, Coach Braxton Harris has turned the team around. The Camels are 3-1 (1-0 CAA) coming into the Hampton contest.
The Camels boast the league's top passing attack (294.0 ypg) led by Senior Kamden Sixkiller, who has passed for 1,141 yards and eight scores in four games. Junior Jyron Waiters hauled in seven passes for 155 yards and two scores in a 42-14 rout of CAA for North Carolina A&T. Junior JJ Cowan rushed for 142 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the win. Sixth-year linebacker Kalen Villanueva had a game-high 10 tackles with a sack in the win over the Aggies.
Campbell amassed 574 yards (355 passing and 219 on the ground) against the Aggies and A&T rushed for just 37 yards (1.8 ypg) on 21 totes in the contest.
Scouting the Pirates
First-year Pirates coach Van Malone has seen his starting quarterback Jalen Woods and leading running back Amari Pryear (214 rushing yards) miss action due to injury.
Senior Tre'Von Taylor completed 13-of-24 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-21 loss at Norfolk State.
Hampton rushed for 105 yards --- 48 by the freshman Pryear before he left the game in the first half --- against Norfolk State in its last outing.
On defense, Cam Sturdifen (12 total tackles), Quae Willis (11) and Anthony Hightower III (10) led the Pirate defense against the Spartans.
- Due to a scheduling quirk, the first two games of the Hampton-Campbell series (2019-2021) were played in Buies Creek, N.C. and Hampton will now host Campbell for the second straight year.
- The game marks the third and final Pirate home game played at Darling Stadium. The first three 2026 games were moved off campus while the turf and track at Armstrong Stadium were replaced.
- Hampton beat Virginia University-Lynchburg 45-0 before falling at Maryland (62-0), Bryant (31-3) and Norfolk State (42-21).
- Under Head Coach Braxton Harris, Campbell is off to a 3-1 start in 2026 after a 2-10 mark in 2025. It has wins over East Tennessee State, East Carolina and North Carolina A&T and lost at Florida.
- The Pirates are looking to snap a 13-game CAA losing streak. Hampton's last league win was 41-21 over Elon on Oct. 26, 2024.
- The Camels broke a five-game conference losing streak with a win over North Carolina A&T on Sept. 19.
- Both head coaches have deep Texas ties. Houston native Van Malone coached at Waltrip and Conroe Highs and North Texas State, Texas A&M and SMU. Campbell's Braxton Harris coached at Mary Hardin-Baylor, Waco High, Texas Lutheran and Howard Payne.
- Hampton joined the CAA in 2022 along with Monmouth, North Carolina A&T and Stony Brook. The Pirates had previously been members of the CIAA, MEAC and Big South before joining the CAA.
