ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Feb. 15, 2025) … The Hampton University men's tennis team ventured to Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday morning to tangle with the Navy Midshipmen but fell in a hard-fought 4-3 decision.
In doubles, the Midshipmen took all three matches for the team point but all were down to the end. Navy won two of those by tie-breakers, 7-3 at line one and 7-5 at line three.
Singles, saw Navy take a 2-0 lead after a win at line four. Hampton answered with a win by
Kevin Jorquera at line five in a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Zachary Quattro. The Midshipmen then won at line three and six to clinch the match.
Hampton made headway at the top two spots winning three-set matches for the final margin.
Donte Armbrister rallied after losing the opening set to Tommy Kim for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory at line one.
Yanozie Amadike finished the match with a thrilling third-set super tie-breaker to score a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10) victory.
The Pirates now head to Richmond for a Thursday matchup against the Spiders.
