HAMPTON, Va. (March 6, 2025) … The Hampton women's tennis team had their first home matches of the 2025 spring season on a chilly Thursday and came away with a pair of victories as they defeated Norfolk State 4-1 and Chowan 4-0.
 
Against the Spartans, Hampton won the doubles point by taking the last two matches. Norfolk State won at No. 2, but Serena Bryan and Diana Starodubtseva won 6-3 at No. 1 and Masa Mitic and Meiri Okuwaki won 6-4 at No. 3 for the team point.
 
Singles saw Hampton come out with three wins to end the match. After a win via injury default for Norfolk State, Starodubtseva won at No. 1 (6-3, 6-1), Okuwaki won at No. 2 (6-4, 6-2) and Bryan clinched at No. 4 (6-3, 6-1).
 
Later in the afternoon Hampton faced off with Chowan and took the doubles point with Mitic and Okuwaki clinching the point via a 6-4 win at No. 2.
 
In singles, the Pirates won at the top three spots behind Starodubtseva (6-1, 6-0), Okuwaki (6-0, 6-0) and Bryan (6-3, 6-0) to take the dual win.
 
Hampton (3-2) now heads to Orlando for a week of matches over Spring Break starting on Monday against Warner at 4 p.m. at Webber International University.
