HAMPTON, Va. (April 13, 2025) … The Hampton University tennis teams celebrated Senior Day on Sunday as the women defeated Morgan State 4-3, while the men dropped a 5-2 decision to Morgan State at Neilson-Screen Stadium.
 
In the women's match, the visiting Bears won the doubles point, taking victories at line one and line three. Hampton won at line two, as Masa Mitic and Meiri Okuwaki scored a 6-3 decision over Julia Jeffrey and Tyler Williams.
 
In singles, Hampton (9-8) rebounded with wins at the top four spots to clinch the victory. Okuwaki and Diana Starodubtseva each won 6-3, 6-3 at lines two and one, respectively, while Serena Bryan scored a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Hannah Smith at line three. Melis Sakiroglu clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at line four.
 
On the men's side, the Bears captured the doubles point in sweeping the three matches. In singles, senior Yanozie Amadike took a 6-1, 7-5 win at line two over Makkijha Brown and Aryan Arora won over Mohamed Ridh Ghettas 6-3, 6-0 at line five for Hampton's (5-13) points.
 
Sunday's match concluded the men's season, while the women will face UNCW on Friday at home starting at 11 a.m.
