HAMPTON, Va. (April 23, 2025) … The Hampton University track and field programs head to Philadelphia this week to participate in the prestigious Penn Relays held at Franklin Field starting on Thursday afternoon.
This event will have colleges and high schools from 35 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and nine foreign countries participating. The Penn Relays are the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, having been held since 1895.
Hampton enters the weekend coming off a solid showing at the Georgia Tech Invitational with seven top-three finishes and six personal best marks set.
Running for Hampton this weekend will include:
- Women's 4x400 relay: Kayla Spencer, Arriah Gilmer, Jordan Mozie, Dejah Grant
- Women's 400 hurdles: Dejah Grant, Kayla Spencer
- Women's 5000 meters: Peninah Mutisya
- Women's Hammer Throw: Victoria Caldwell, Jaida Graham
- Women's Discus: Rochele Solmon, Nya Harmon, Damali Williams
- Women's Shot Put: Nya Harmon, Rochele Solmon
- Men's 4x400 relay: Daniel Danner, Justin Anderson, Ibrahim Abdalla, Mohammed Al-YaFee
USTFCCA RANKINGS
The women's outdoor track and field team earned a top 45 ranking by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, announced on Tuesday.
The discus throw shows the Pirates ranked 10th nationally, while the 100 hurdles are 22nd, the shot put is 30th, and the 400 meters are 41st nationally. This is the third week in a row that the Pirates are top ten ranked in the discus.
In the Southeast Region, which consisting of SEC and ACC schools, the Pirates as a team are ranked 12th.
