HAMPTON, Va. (April 3, 2025) … The Hampton University women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing skid on Thursday with a 6-1 win at home over Coppin State.
 
In doubles, the Pirates took the team point as Serena Bryan and Diana Starodubtseva won the clinching match at line one 6-4 over Brandy Babcock-Hannah and Megan Etienne. Meiri Okuwaki and Sofia Sokolova won at line two 6-1 to put the Pirates on the board in doubles.
 
Singles saw the Pirates win the first five matches to lock up the victory. Bryan clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Etienne at line three.  Starodubtseva won at line one (6-0, 6-3), and Okuwaki at line two won (6-1, 6-0) to give Hampton a 4-0 lead.
 
The last three singles matches went to an eight-game pro set as the match was clinched with Hampton winning with Sokolova at line four (8-1) and Melis Sakiroglu at line five (8-4).
 
Hampton (6-6) is back on the road this weekend facing N.C. A&T on Saturday and Campbell on Sunday.
