Track and Field Teams Head To Aggie Classic

HAMPTON, Va. (May 1, 2025) … The Hampton University track and field programs will make the first of two straight trips to Marcus T. Johnson Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T this weekend for the Aggie Classic.

Hampton is coming off a solid weekend with strong results in the Penn Relays and Virginia High Performance meet.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Jordan MozieDejah GrantArriah Gilmer and Kayla Spencer finished seventh in the Championship of America race with a 3:42.43. That grouping ran 3:37.46 in the qualifying rounds Friday to make Saturday's final. Grant also ran in the 400 hurdles where she finished seventh in 58.01 winning her heat as Kayla Spencer was also in her heat and ran 59.80 to finish overall in 19th.

Junior Damali Williams finished eighth in the discus throw as the Clarendon, Jamaica native unleashed a throw of 52.07 meters (170-10) on her final throw to move into eighth place.
A small contingent of Pirates went to Charlottesville on Sunday to participate in the Virginia High Performance meet.

Leading the pack was Prince Osagie-Erese who set a personal best winning the men's high jump in 1.97m (6-5.5) with Daven Gibson coming in second at the same height. Ellis Branch finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 14.59m (47-10.5), while Danielle James took third in the long jump with a 5.91 meter leap (19-4.75). The men's 4x100 relay of Jaden Clark, Deondre McIntosh, Khari Barnes and Kyle Lewis also took second with a season best 40.48.

USTFCCA RANKINGS
The latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) rankings were released on Tuesday and the women's track and field program slots in with four events in the top 50 nationally.

In the discus, the Pirates are ranked 12th to top that list. Hampton is 26th in the 100 hurdles, 35th in shot put and 48th in the 400 meters.

On the men's side, Hampton has four groupings ranked in the top 10 in the Southeast Region which includes teams from the SEC and ACC. Joseph Ernest is sixth in the long jump and 16th in the triple jump, while Deondre McIntosh is 16th in the 100 meters. In the 4x100 relay, Hampton comes in 16th, while the 4x400 relay is 15th.
