Clayton Hamilton

Clayton Hamilton is starting his third season as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach for Hampton University.

In the first season of Big South competition in 2019, the tandem of Cherise Slocombe and Kiah Turner went 6-6 at line one doubles and Slocombe had four wins at line three singles. For the men, the Pirates were struck with the injury bug and stumbled as the doubles team of Charles Hudson and Fernando Fernandes had four wins at line two and Davy van Geerke had three wins at line one singles.

Hamilton joined prior to the start of the 2018 spring season and guided the women’s team to its second straight runner-up finish in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.  The Lady Pirates went 6-0 in MEAC Northern Division action and finished with a 9-7 overall record with wins over George Mason and Mount St. Mary’s.  Earning All-MEAC honors were Yulia Kapitanova at first team singles and Mariam Mitaishvili at second team singles.  On the men’s side, the Pirates made the MEAC semifinals and Matthew Foster-Estwick was named to the first team All-MEAC squad.

He is a graduate of Guilford College where he played two years for the Quakers after starting his collegiate career across town at Greensboro College.  For the Quakers, he was a two-time second team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection with 23 singles victories in his career.
