Alonzo Jones

    Men's Jumps and Multi-Events Coach
Hampton native and Phoebus High School graduate Alonzo Moore joined the Hampton coaching staff in the 2021-22 season serving as men’s jumps and multi-events. 
 
While at Phoebus, he was ranked as the top triple jumper in the state with a then personal best of 51-2.25 which broke an 18-year old state record.  He won the AAU Junior Olympics at Norfolk State as a senior with a leap of 51-9.
 
His exploits at Phoebus helped lead him to the University of Wisconsin as he was a part of three Big Ten Triple Crown Championship teams – winning cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. He was a three-time Big Ten Champion and a three-time All-American in the triple jump with a best finish of third in the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
In his post-college days, Moore competed in numerous USA Track and Field Indoor and Outdoor Championships as a professional.  He competed in the 2008 Olympic Trials making the finals in the triple jump and finishing 11th, while in 2009 he took third at the USA Indoor Championships.
 
Most recently over the past few years, Alonzo was an assistant track & field coach at Phoebus High School as well as a local AAU coach. He coached some of the best female & male jumpers locally and within the state of Virginia.
