The Hampton University women’s soccer program took a significant leap forward with the hiring of Scot Vorwold as head coach on Jan. 8, 2024. for the Pirates. He now enters his second season leading the Pirates in 2025.
In his first season at the helm in 2024, Vorwold guided the team to several top marks in program history. Hampton amassed the second most goals in a single season, had the second lowest goals against average and tied the mark for most assists in a single season. The Pirates played to a 0-0 draw with Howard for their first points against the Bison and their first victory in program history over Delaware State.
Vorwold joined Hampton with an impressive coaching history, having successfully transformed the women’s soccer program at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. Taking charge of a struggling team with a 1-11-1 record in 2013 and an overall 6-57-3 record in the preceding four seasons, Vorwold orchestrated a remarkable turnaround and now holds the title of the winningest women’s soccer coach in Harris-Stowe history.
During his tenure, Vorwold's initial four seasons saw a steady improvement, recording a 24-44-3 worksheet. However, the most impressive feat came in the last six seasons, with the Hornets boasting a remarkable 71-30-5 record. Over his 10 years as head coach, the Hornets achieved a commendable 95-74-8 record, including back-to-back 13-5-1 seasons and an outstanding 18-2 mark in 2021.
Vorwold's coaching accolades also include being named the 2021 American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year. His leadership led to back-to-back conference tournament final appearances in 2021-2022, not only for the women's team but also guiding the men's team to the conference final in 2021. His prowess extended to recruiting, bringing in two conference newcomers of the year.
Vorwold's commitment to academic success was evident with three valedictorians in the past five years among the women's team. Additionally, he inherited the men's team, who, in the previous three seasons, compiled a record of 8-38-2. Under Vorwold's guidance from 2020-2022, the men's team achieved a remarkable 25-17-4 record, including a conference tournament final appearance and one tournament semi-final appearance. Notably, he recruited the conference newcomer of the year in 2022, showcasing his impact on both the women's and men's programs.
Beyond coaching achievements, Vorwold served as the Athletic Director at Tower Grove Christian Academy from 2011-20. His impact was felt as he led the varsity girls’ soccer team to four state championships (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2019) and received conference coach of the year honors in 2009 and 2012.
With a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Harris-Stowe, Vorwold brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role at Hampton. His impressive coaching history, dedication to excellence, and commitment to both athletic and academic success position him as a key figure in shaping the future success of the women’s soccer program at Hampton.
