Hampton, Va. – Hampton running back Alonzo Coleman was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week the league announced today, while fellow Pirate Nevin McCaskill was honored as the Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Alonzo Coleman (RB, 5-11, 205, Sr. – South Boston, VA) ran for more than 180 yards for the second straight week, with 181 yards and four touchdowns against Florida A&M. The performance helped the Pirates claim at least a share of the MEAC title. Coleman carried the ball just 11 times, averaging 16.5 yards per carry, and scoring on touchdown runs of 4, 46, 44, and 31 yards (in just over two quarters). His 181 yards marked the ninth time in his career that he’s had more than 150 yards and his 18th multi-touchdown game.
Nevin McCaskill (OT, 6-4, 292, R-Sr. – Tallahassee, FL) recorded five pancake blocks as he helped clear the way for Hampton to rush for 286 yards and seven touchdowns against Florida A&M. McCaskill graded out at 92 percent, anchoring the left side of the offensive line. He was the lead blocker on three of the Pirates’ seven touchdown runs, allowing teammate Alonzo Coleman to go untouched on scoring runs of 44 and 31 yards.
