Hampton, Va. – The Hampton University men’s basketball team will open play in the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Basketball Tournament Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. against the Bison of Howard at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.

The Pirates will take an overall record of 14-15 and a conference mark of 10-8 into the postseason as they prepare to defend their 2006 MEAC Tournament Championship. Hampton finished in a five-way tie in the MEAC standings, but will enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed since the Pirates have the worst record versus the other 10-8 teams. Howard enters the tournament as the No. 10 seed with a conference record of 5-13, 9-21 overall. The Bison closed out the regular season with a 63-60 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore, giving the Hawks their only MEAC victory this year.

This will be just the second meeting this season between the Pirates and the Bison with Howard winning 95-84 back on Dec. 2 in the Big Apple Classic at Madison Square Garden.
