Baltimore, Md. – Freshman Jada Jeffries continued her hot streak at the plate going 5-for-7 with two RBIs to help Hampton (32-10) sweep Morgan State 3-0 and 8-2 in a MEAC softball battle Sunday afternoon.

Game one was a pitcher’s dual between Hampton’s Amanda Black and Morgan State’s Carolynn Howard. Neither pitcher allowed a run through the end of regulation, sending the game into extra innings. With a base runner placed on second base due to the international tie-breaking rules, the Lady Pirates got on the board first in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Brittany Davis. Maggie Wolfe reached base via a walk and Jeffries followed with her second hit of the game, a two-run single to left field giving Hampton a three-run cushion as Morgan State (10-20) came to bat.

Black took things from there, getting the first two batters to line out to shortstop Evelyn Garcia before ending the game with her seventh strikeout. She allowed just three hits and didn’t walk a batter to earn her 20th victory (20-4), while Howard fell to 6-11 despite sound performance of her own.

The nightcap would not prove to be as close as the Lady Pirates jumped out to a 4-2 lead after three innings behind a two-run single by Garcia and a two-run homer to left from catcher Jennifer Gonzales. Hampton added three more runs in the sixth when Wolfe singled in Davis and Ashley Weissenbach who reached base on an error by Morgan center fielder Dominisha Britton.

Weissenbach (7-2) allowed two runs on three hits to record the win for Hampton.
