HAMPTON, VA – There will be good reason to be confused when the Hampton Lady Pirates take the court against the South Carolina State Bulldogs on Saturday, February 16 as the squad will take part in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) 2008 “Think Pink” Initiative, a nation-wide effort by the WBCA to increase breast cancer awareness. The game will feature a number of activities, promotions, and informational materials, highlighted by the Lady Pirates taking the court in pink socks and shoe laces as well as coaches and staff wearing pink.
Halftime of the game will be a big moment as the Lady Pirates will honor breast cancer survivors as well.
The week of February 8-17 is the designated week for the WBCA’s “Think Pink” initiative with activities going on across the country with over 600 teams committed to join the fight against Breast Cancer. The WBCA’s “Think Pink” initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
The game will be a part of a nation-wide effort by colleges and high school teams in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness. Teams participating in the “Think Pink” initiative range from all division of NCAA play as well as NAIA, Junior/Community College, high school and AAU.
