NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Hampton University bowling team competed in the ECAC Women’s Bowling Championships March 8 and 9 in North Brunswcik, N.J. The Lady Pirates lost all five of their matches on Saturday, March 8, and went 3-2 on Sunday, March 9.
On Saturday, the Pirates lost all five matches in the five-person team match format. Adelphi defeated Hampton 903-767 to start the competition, and losses to St. Peter’s College (914-796), Sacred Heart (1,019-831), New Jersey City (1,057-855) and St. Francis (885-883) followed.
Senior Ashleigh Lyons knocked down a team-high 869 pins in those five matches for the Lady Pirates (151, 170, 146, 215, 187). Freshman Kayeloni Lagrone scored 854 pins (156, 198, 179, 161, 160).
In Baker total pinfall format, the Lady Pirates went 2-1 losing to Fairleight Dickinson 720-674 before beating Howard 728-649 and Cheyney University 686-432. Hampton won the first two games against FDU, 196-193 and 171-144, but 179-144 and 204-163 losses helped FDU win the match.
Hampton beat Howard in three of the four games in the match, with Howard only managing a 158-137 win in the third game. Cheyney failed to win a game as the Lady Pirates won the match in a clean sweep.
In Baker match play, Hampton went 1-1, beating Howard 4-3 in seven games. The Lady Pirates won the last three games to take the match. Morgan State swept Hampton, winning 199-138, 176-143, 161-147 and 166-155.
Sacred Heart won the ECAC championship, beating Adelphi 4-1 in the final match.
