Decathlon Day 1 Results (HTML)
PRINCETON, N.J. – Hampton University sophomore Damon Dixon sat third in the decathlon at the 2009 IC4A Outdoor Championships through five events on Friday at the William Weaver Track & Field Stadium on the campus of Princeton University.
Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) had 3,587 points through five events, leaving him 24 points behind second-place Matt Miller of UNC-Wilmington. Liberty's Dan Newell held the lead at the midway point with 3,767 points.
Dixon led all decathletes in the long jump with a distance of 6.76 meters, compiling 757 points in that event. He also tied for the best mark in the high jump with Miller at 1.97 meters to collect another 776 points. He also scored 789 points by running an 11.33 in the 100-meter dash and 783 points with a 50.70 in the 400-meter dash.
Dixon threw the shot put 9.94 meters to earn himself another 482 points.
The decathlon will conclude Saturday morning at 9 a.m., beginning with the 110-meter hurdles. Decathletes will also compete in the discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500-meter run.
