WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Hampton University sailing team closed the 2009-10 season on a strong note, winning the Army 2-on-2 Team Race hosted by the U.S. Military Academy.

The Pirates won all three of their races on Saturday before the rest of the day's action was called off due to a lack of wind. The wind did not return on Sunday, cancelling that day's action as well and ensuring a Hampton victory.

Christopher Newport finished second, while Drexel came in third, Columbia finished fourth and Army came in fifth.

This was the third win of the season for the Pirates; they won The Webb Regatta at CNU on Oct. 24-25, before also taking the CNU 2-on-2 Invitational on March 20-21. Hampton also has four second-place finishes and finished third twice.

Following a successful 2009-10 season, head coach Alessandro Ambrosi can now begin preparations for the 2010-11 season – a year in which the Pirates will host at least two regattas, including the 2011 MAISA/SAISA Intersectional.
