MACK EARNS STATE FARM SCHOLARSHIP

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Hampton University sophomore Sydnee Mack was one of 14 student-athletes to be awarded academic scholarships during the 24th annual PGA Minority Collegiate Championships.

The tournament was held May 7-9 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Mack (Las Vegas, Nev.) was one of 10 golfers to receive the State Farm Insurance scholarship, which totals $1,000. Three other scholarships were awarded: the John Cash Scholarship ($500), the Earnie Ellison Scholarship ($500) and the Cliff Wallace Scholarship ($500).

Over the past decade, State Farm Insurance has awarded $110,000 in scholarships.

This year, students again submitted a questionnaire in application for the State Farm/PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Scholarship Program. The committee considered the student's grade-point average (GPA) and awarded the scholarships based on one per school represented in the group of applications submitted. A minimum GPA of 2.5 was required.

Mack, who was also named to the MEAC's 2010 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, shot a 34-over 250 (84-81-85) to finish 18th in the PGA Minority Collegiate. The Lady Pirates finished third in the team standings with a three-day score of 949 (320-308-321).
